Elfen Lied ~ Mariko - The Breakout 2

On the edge of the forest I stopped. A single step was so small and tall at the same time. Walking around with other people just like a normal human. Normal. A beautiful word. I had always wished that my father and I could live like a normal … eh… what was it called? Right, family. Like a normal family. But this wish had been burned into dust.

One step. I put my foot on the hard ground behind the edge. I felt the warm sun shining on my skin. It felt good and finally I stood on the solid street. I had been there so many years ago but my memory faded after a few years. Another woman pretending she is my mother had told me about the world outside when I asked her. I had really loved the tales but I had never thought that it would be so great like that. I held my head against the sun and closed my eyes. But suddenly I felt something. I knew that this place wouldn't be that nice to live there.
She was there. Not as far as 500 meters away.


Could it really be? Yeah, it was her. I had violated her so much but she hadn't even tried to resist. My father had loved her like his daughter, almost more than… me. But then he had taken me and left her back. I didn't think she hated me or something. She hated nobody, only if that somebody hated or hurt her. She was just like me, not exactly, but like my kind. I actually felt bad. The professors had told me year over year that it wasn't fun to kill people. I'd been just a child. I had been in this laboratory for my whole life. I had generated such a big, deep hate in my dark cell under this bandage which had covered my eyes.
I had planned to kill the first one who touched me whoever it would be. Well, unfortunately it had been my foster mother. I had known it was a mistake as my arm had exploded.
I had learned that normal people don't kill for fun.
I wanted to be a normal one so much.
I could be it.
If I wouldn't be an unmerciful killer.
Just… normal.
