Chapter 2

-        -        -       -        -        -

“Do you want some beer, (y/n)?”

“I already told you that I don’t drink!”

“Uh, yeah… right. I forgot” Gilbert said and scratched the back of his head.

You chuckled.
“It’s not that bad. But how about you tell me a bit about yourself, now that we became friends”

“Yeah, sure! Hm… where should I begin…?”
The albino thought for a few seconds.

“Ah, yeah! Well, I’m actually German. I came from Germany where I was living with West and…”

“Who or what is ‘West’?”

“Oh, that’s mein kleiner Bruder. He was so cute when he was a kid!”

“Wait, wait. What did you just say? I guess that was German, but…”

Gilbert blushed.
“I-I’m sorry, I accidentally put some German words in my sentences sometimes! ‘Mein kleiner Bruder’ means ‘my little brother’.”

“I understand. Please, go on.”

“Okay. So I lived with my little brother We-, I mean Ludwig, in Germany. We grew up together and when we were old enough, we took us our own flat! It was really chaotic first, but after a few months we had at least a bit tidiness in there. We looked for a job and worked. My brother was the one cooking and keeping the flat clean, it was almost like he is a maid or something…”

You laughed.
“A maid? Well, then he is the feminine guy of you two, huh?”

“No, he isn’t! And that’s the funny thing. Here, I got a picture…”

He took a picture out of his purse.
On the picture was a tall, muscular and blonde man. He had a serious look on his face and his hair was slicked back. He didn’t even smile a bit.

“This is your little brother, the maid?”

“Yes. It’s really hard to believe, isn’t it?”

You started to laugh really hard until your belly hurt.

“This guy looks more like a commanding officer who is fighting in the war all the time than a housemaid! Are you serious?!”

“Ja, I am! Really!”

When you started laughing hard again, Gilbert couldn’t hold back anymore and laughed with you.
You finally finished laughing and wiped some tears out of the corner of your eyes.

“You’ve got a really weird family!”

“I know! And there was a time when Lud went to visit a cousin of us in Austria, that cousin flicked his old boxers. He said that he could still wear it but that boxers were old and dirty anyway. West couldn’t persuade him to throw it away! Man, my brother was so happy when he got back home.”

“A nice story! Have you got another one?”

“Yeah, we were visited by a friend of Ludwig once. His name was Feliciano, I think. That guy was overflowing with joy and happiness and optimism. He kind of annoyed the hell out West, but I think he likes him really much. Every pessimist needs an optimist, eh?”

You chuckled.
“I think so. But- how old are you actually? I didn’t ask you that yet.”

“Oh, I’m sorry, I’m 24 years old! I think…”

“What does ‘I think’ mean?”

“Oh, eh, I just… I’m almost 25!”

“Really? When is your birthday?”

“… January 18!”

“You know that it’s… uh… kind of spring here? Almost a full year to your next birthday…?”

Gilbert blushed hard.
“I… I know! I was just k-kidding!”
He laughed artificially.

“Haha, okay”

“Hm… is there something else I could tell you…? Ah, yes. While the optimistic Italian was in our house, his brother came over to us, too. His brother is just as clumsy as him, but he doesn’t like the German people really much, I think. He just appeared out of nowhere and shouted at us, and waved hysterically. He talked really fast, so that we couldn’t really understand what he wanted from us. Until his brother came around the corner. It was very irritating first, but I laughed my ass off when Feliciano was strangled by his brother. Then their haircurls tangled and all we saw was two Italians, the one swearing and strangling the other crying one. Later Feliciano told us that he had forgotten to tell his brother that he wanted to visit us. Well, he said he had forgotten, but he told Ludwig that he never told his brother when he was visiting him, because his brother, Lovino was his name, hated the Germans.”

He paused to laugh.

“Oh, that Italians. They never get boring.”

“Haha, that’s a really cool story, too”

“I know, I know… but hey, how about you tell me something about yourself?”

“About myself…? There’s not really much to tell, I guess. I like ____, my favorite animals are ____, my favorite color is _____ and my mother always forgets to knock on my door before entering my room.”

“Come on, (y/n)! There must be more!”

“I think… I like the spring very much. When everything blooms and the warmth comes back. Oh, and I love watching the sunset!”

He looked at you closely.

“(y/n), how old are you?”

“W-What..? Oh, I forgot, I’m sorry! Almost 19, my birthday is ____ __.”

“Ah.”

“By the way, where’s Gilbird?”

“Gilbird? I think he is sleeping he’s sleeping in the cupboard, that lazy bird.”

He walked over to the cupboard.

“Yep, he is sleeping in his favorite cup again. Want to take a look?”

He smiled and signaled you with his waving hand to come over to him.

You smiled back and walked slowly to the cupboard. Standing on your tiptoe, you looked into the wooden cupboard. And really: In a white cup with flower pattern was a little, yellow ball, sleeping.

“Ooooh! How cute!” you whispered.

“Yeah. That lucky bastard. Nobody says that to me when I’m sleeping.” Gilbert said chuckling.

“Well, you’re not a little, fluffy yellow birdie, are you?”

“No, but I can be cute in other ways!”

“Oh, really?”

“Ja, no one can resist my mega awesome cuteness!”

“And how?”

“Maybe you will find out sometime…” he said grinning.

“I think I’m okay with that.”

You pulled on the collar of your t-shirt.

“Damn… is it just me or do you think it got quite hot in here, too?”

“Ja, it’s really warm… why don’t we sit down in the garden under the big cherry tree, it’s cool there because of the big shadow. We could take some ice tea with us!”

“That’s a really good idea.”

“Awesome! I’ll go get the ice tea, you can already sit down in the garden if you want.”

“Okay!”

- - - Prussia’s POV - - -

‘Thank god there’s the big cherry tree in the garden. If I hadn’t found a cool place for (y/n), her t-shirt would’ve probably gotten wet from her sweat. And I just cannot keep my eyes from girls with wet shirts, not that I have ever kept my eyes from her…’

- - - Your POV - - -

“Ah, that’s much better. Thank you, Gil!”

“It’s nothing.”

You sat under the tree and chatted for a while. Then you kept both quiet for a few minutes. When you began speaking again, no one replied you.

“Gilbert? Hey!”

You looked over to him. He sat next to you, his head resting on the trunk of the cherry tree. The eyes of the albino were closed and his chest raised and lowed steadily.

He was asleep.
